The Point Foundation Mentoring Program Requirements and Application ProcessMentor RequirementsAll potential mentors must complete an application package. This includes on online application, and authorization of routine background and reference checks to qualify for the program. Background and reference checks will be conducted only when an applicant reaches the final stages of the application process. We conduct our annual matching process in the early summer, and the mentoring season begins in the fall running throughout one full academic year. We accept applications on a rolling basis. Once your application is received, it will be filed and you will receive an update on the status of the matching process and program from the Mentoring Program Manager quarterly (once every 3 months). Application FeeIn order to defray the administrative costs of operating the matching process of the Foundation’s Mentoring Program, a minimum gift of $250 which represents a non-refundable application and processing fee of $150 and a donation of $100 to The Point Foundation. If you have already made a donation at or above $250 to the Foundation, you are pre-qualified. There is a sliding payment schedule for individuals currently working in social services, K-12 education, or the public sector. Your application fees are directed toward the expenses of processing applications, completing background checks, and administering the mentoring program and to ensure that we will be able to continue to provide each of our promising young scholars with qualified mentors like you, who will make a substantive difference in their lives. No Guarantee of MatchFortunately, the Point Foundation currently has many more mentor applicants than scholars in our program. That said, we are constantly seeking new mentor applications and encourage you to apply. We have a diverse set of students with various academic backgrounds and professional interests who may benefit greatly from working with someone like you. The foundation desires to build a large pool of mentor candidates to better match the interests of both the mentor and the scholar. Additionally, the foundation seeks mentor candidates who are interested in assisting our scholars with additional aspects of our program including leadership development, professional advice and networking, as well as internship opportunities. Again, please be advised that the foundation is NOT always able to successfully match a mentor applicant with a Point Scholar. Application Process1) If you have not done so already, and before filling out the application form, please make a minimum $250 contribution to The Point Foundation which represents a non-refundable application and processing fee of $150 and a donation of $100 to the Point Foundation. Click here for our Donation page. (You can link back to the Mentoring Program Application page using "Mentoring" from the navigation bar at the top of our site.) 2) Fill out the Mentoring Program Application, a secure-server page. Processing of mentoring applications takes approximately 6-8 weeks. You will receive an email from Darrin Wilstead once your application has been received and processing has begun and you will receive quarterly updates from the Mentoring Program via email. 3) Make sure you fax all required materials (background check authorization form and Code of Conduct) immediately after filling out your application.
